Dog show people are a determined bunch. We arrive before sunrise, unload crates, groom for hours, and sometimes spend the entire day ringside waiting for our next spin around the  ring.

In the excitement of competition, it's surprisingly easy to overlook one very important competitor—our dog's ability to stay cool.

Heat stress doesn't happen only in parked cars. It can develop while standing in grooming areas, walking across asphalt parking lots, or simply waiting outside the ring on a humid afternoon.

The best exhibitors think ahead.

  • Bring more water than you think you'll need.
  • Offer small drinks frequently.
  • Use cooling mats or fans when appropriate.
  • Find shade whenever possible.
  • Watch for early signs of overheating rather than waiting until your dog appears distressed.

Remember, ribbons can always wait. Your dog's health cannot.

The best win of the weekend is loading a happy, healthy dog back into your vehicle for the trip home.

🏆 Because your dog already believes in you — now it’s your turn.
