Ready for the Beginning of the End?

Sep 02, 2025

Welcome to September, the portal to the fastest four months of the year. It begins with or includes a three-day weekend celebrating workers and everything we contribute to the world. It’s the unofficial end of summer. September is the line of demarcation for wearing white and seersucker – as of yesterday, you’re not supposed to be caught dead in either the color or the fabric, or – gasp! – both. Neighborhood and community pools are most likely closed until next Memorial Day, and it’s allegedly back-to-school time, though many school systems have been back in session for a few weeks already.

What is September for you? Does it hold good memories, bad memories, or no strong memories at all? Did you celebrate this past weekend with friends and family and cookouts and parades, or did you do some power shopping at the sales, whether brick and mortar or online?

I moved into a new-to-me house five weeks ago, then promptly traveled three weekends in a row, so my Labor Day weekend included a lot of house stuff – organizing, putting down a new rug, and getting a new sink and faucet in the kitchen. For some people that doesn’t sound like much fun. To me, it was a very satisfying and successful long weekend.

And yes, I did shop my share of Labor Day sales, both brick and mortar and online. New-to-me house deserves some new-to-it things, don’t you think?

As we begin the quick march to the holidays and the end of this year, remember to spend your time the way you want to spend it. Sure, you may still have to go to work – try to focus on the parts of work that make you happy.

Because time’s going to fly. You might as well have fun!
