Bad Poetry Day: A Wagalicious Poetry Disaster

Aug 18, 2026

August 18 is Bad Poetry Day, and dog show people may be uniquely qualified to celebrate.

For example...

There once was a dog from Peru,
Whose stack never quite stood true.
He'd waggle his tail,
The rear feet would fail,
And the judge said, "Well...that'll do."

Or perhaps...

Roses are red.
The grooming's a fright.
The judge looked at someone else.
Clearly...they weren't right.

How about...

My bait fell out.
My lead came loose.
My dog chose then
To chase a goose.

Okay...maybe not a goose.

The point is that dog shows give us enough memorable moments to fill an entire library of wonderfully terrible poetry.

So today, let's celebrate the laughs. Write your own bad dog show poem. The worse it is, the better.

Share it with your dog friends. Post it on social media. Recite it ringside—preferably after judging has finished!

Life is too short to take ourselves too seriously.

Now it's your turn.

Can you write a worse dog show poem than mine?

I sincerely hope so.
