Are you having a rough day?

  • Maybe it’s the kind of day that started out with a toothpaste drip on the last clean shirt in your closet.
  • Maybe every light between home and work was red.
  • Maybe it was pouring rain, you had to park in the uncovered part of the lot, and your umbrella is in the closet at home.
  • Maybe your computer wouldn’t boot up, your desk chair lost a wheel, and someone swiped your coffee mug.

That’s a no good very bad day, for sure. And yet, you woke up this morning. You had running water, transportation, some food, and a job to go to.

Before you roll your eyes, stop – what I’m reminding you of isn’t “you’ve got it better than a lot of people so quit complaining.” What I’m reminding you of is to choose your focus.

When your day starts off badly and you focus on what’s wrong, telling everyone the tales of your woes, you’re focused on the negatives. When you focus negatively, your brain is wired to point out more negativity to you. Even on a no good very bad day, if you can remember to focus positively and find whatever feels good to focus on, then your brain is wired to give you more positivity.

This one tiny tweak is a huge way to turn around a no good very bad day, I promise!
