Why It's Good to be a Softie - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast

Have you ever been told you’re soft-hearted, and the person saying it meant it as an insult?

A lot of people believe that in order to succeed you must learn to be hard-hearted, maybe even a little bit ruthless. Those people are welcome to their opinion, and I believe they are wrong. Just as you can be angry without being mean and underhanded, just as you can be sad without wallowing in self-pity, you can feel caring and love in a situation where many people would feel defensive or vindictive.

You don’t have to be “that person” – you know the type, that person who has to escalate the drama of a situation instead of simply understanding it and moving on. When you’re soft-hearted, you understand that people live different lives, have lived different experiences, and see the world differently. And it’s OK.

Know what feels right and true to you, and when someone calls you soft-hearted like it’s a bad thing, simply say thank you and move on.
