Why Losing Someone Really Hurts - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Have you suffered the loss of a loved one? Most of us have, and unless we die really early, all of us will.
It’s gut-wrenching to lose someone you love – to know you’ll never get a call or text from them again, never get to hear their laugh or their wisdom, never get to watch them experience things you knew they longed to experience.
Think about what I just said – you’re suffering the pain of loss – your loss, not theirs.
When you lose someone you loved, what you’re losing is the experience you had, planned to have, and dreamed of having with them. You think you’re missing them – what you’re actually missing is your experience of them.
One of the best ways to heal your heart is to remember that you can have the experience of them anytime you’d like. It’s tough at first when your pain is sharpest, and it gets easier the farther in time you are from the loss and the more often you consciously choose to experience them.
Think of something you’d like to say to them? Put them in the chair next to you, see their face, lean in and say what you want to say. Do this in your imagination and feel your sorrows begin to lift.
Do this often. It works. I promise you it does.
