Dealing With a Difficult Plot Twist - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Have you ever been part of a conversation where you learned that the person you thought was a kindred spirit didn’t see things the way you thought they did?
I was in a three-way conversation, discussing an ongoing problem that was being difficult to nail down and solve. One person said they thought the solution was out of our hands, and the other person, the one who’d been working diligently on it with me far longer, not only agreed, they said they’d felt that way from the very beginning.
Ouch. That was the polar opposite of what she’d previously said to me.
Have you ever had that happen in your life? It hit me like a betrayal and made me question whether I was working with the right person. Time has passed, we still don’t have a solution, and there are several potential options for the next steps.
What would you do, or what have you done in a similar situation? The passage of time can help, as can finding a way to think about the situation differently.
When you can reframe the hurtful conversation in such a way that you can remove its sting, you’ll be able to keep the relationships sound and healthy.
