Are You Feeling the Vibe or Feeling Wet? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast

According to the late Bob Marley, some people feel the rain, and others just get wet.

What did he mean by that? In a nutshell, some people are living in the moment, appreciating the experience, while others are focused elsewhere and though they know what they’re experiencing, they’re not living the experience.

In my life, and maybe yours too, those who are “just getting wet” are the ones who complain about the rain, or whatever else is happening in their life that they perceive as an inconvenience. They’re so focused on what they’re doing that they forget to appreciate the benefits of that thing they’re irritated over.

Let’s take rain literally – many people complain about a gloomy, dreary, rainy day. They can find dozens of reasons that the rain shouldn’t be in their experience that day, and are happy to share those complaints aloud to anyone who’ll listen.

Tedious, right?

Those who feel the rain – in other words, acknowledge and find things to appreciate about it – are taking a bigger, more holistic view of a gloomy, dreary, rainy day: it provides water for outdoor plants and animals, it gives the earth a break from the sun beating down on it constantly, and it fills our streams and lakes with life.

Do you just get wet, or do you feel the rain? Can you?
