Why do You Hate Yourself? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
When you think about your looks, what do you think?
- Do you think your nose is too big or your hair is impossible or your waistline is too round?
- Do you hide your body under long sleeves and long pants even in the hottest weather because your skin is too pale or your knees are too knobby or your arms are too flabby?
- Do you judge your body and find it lacking or less than?
Why?
We don’t see ourselves the way others see us – we don’t see the light that dances in our eyes when we smile, we don’t see the love we radiate when we’re helping others, and we don’t see the angelic peace on our face as we sleep.
Being self-critical is a bad habit, one that destroys your feelings of self-worth and self-confidence, and it serves no useful purpose. Like any habit, you can break it if you know how.
Today, give yourself 10 minutes to make a list of the things you love about your body and your heart. Snap a picture of the list and favorite it in your phone. Pay attention to the criticism your brain habitually dishes up, and put up your mental stop sign when you catch your brain beating you up. Open up your list and read it.
Remind yourself just how awesome you truly are.
