Keep Your Ideas to Yourself - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites

When you get all excited about something new and share it with those close to you, what’s the feedback you usually get? Hopefully you get mainly enthusiastic, supportive responses.

Most of us have at least one person in our lives who shoots down our ideas.  Heck, I was married to one of those people for three decades! It took a while until I learned to stay quiet about something I really wanted to see happen.

I wasn’t keeping secrets, I was ensuring the chance for my idea to succeed. When someone important to you poo-poo’s your dreams, it’s human nature to give up on those dreams, and also to question yourself and your capabilities. After all, we care about that person, which means their opinion matters to us.

The easiest way to maintain the caring relationship without giving up on your dreams is to remain quiet about those dreams until they’ve started to unfold. Let the “I’ll believe it when I see it” people see it when you’ve created it.
