Every person is different, and yet the pressure to conform to what others think is normal is immense! No matter what you call it – social norms, majority influence, group pressure – fitting in seems to be expected of us, right from the beginning. From being teased about how you’re dressed to being expected to demonstrate your level of education vs. standardized tests to working overtime every night because everyone else on the team does it, the pressure to conform is everywhere.

And inside, maybe your heart really wants to do things your way.

The more you squelch that inner song of yours, the more stress you’ll have, the shorter fuse you’ll have, and the less likely you’ll be to be fulfilled in your work or your life. Say this to yourself in the mirror every morning, so you’ll remember it and believe it:

“I’m not for everyone – and it’s OK.”
