Are You Watering Dead Plants? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Is there someone in your life that you pour into, trying to help them survive and thrive? Maybe it’s a child, maybe it’s an extended family member, or maybe it’s a friend or co-worker?
There are times in every person’s life where they need the help of others, and it does feel good to help, doesn’t it? It feels good, right up until it doesn’t.
Maybe you’ve gotten there with this person you’re thinking of? Or maybe you will get there, sooner or later. Some people like to let others take care of them. They view themselves as victims, focusing on the bad things that have happened to them as evidence of a life of strife and unfairness. They call on those around them to lift them up, and often focus their neediness on one specific person. It can be you, and you’ll feel good for a while. And then maybe you’ll notice that the things you’ve taught them over and over they still aren’t putting into action? And maybe you’ll see that they continue to depend on you for things they could do for themselves, they just don’t?
Think about this…if you had a houseplant that withered and died in spite of everything you did for it, would you continue to water it?
