Who's Right, Who's Wrong, and Who Cares? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast

Can you let someone else love something you really don't love? Think before you answer – this is something that most of us struggle with.

From childhood, being right was drilled into us. It’s the way learning works – “right” is good and “wrong” is not so good, so we’re incentivized to be right. That creates a pattern of thought in the brain that makes you certain that what you know is the way it is, and when you find someone who doesn’t agree, you feel the need to defend your position and show the other person the error of their ways.

The problem is that the other person feels as “right” in their knowledge as you feel in yours, so the other person won’t be very receptive to your attempt at correcting them.

A much more powerful way to handle this is to let the other person be right, too.

  • What if what you know is right for you and what they know is right for them?
  • What if you can be OK with not having to teach, and instead just accept their right to their differing view?
  • What if you can let someone else love something you don’t really love?

This one powerful concept will release more stress in your life than almost anything else.
