Using Touch and Go to Ease a Loss - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Is someone you cared deeply about missing from your life? Maybe they moved where they live, maybe they moved on from you, or maybe they moved on from life on earth.
No matter the reason, they’re missing from your life, and it hurts. A lot.
Or maybe what you’re feeling is more like anger than hurt. The depth of the feeling is the focus of this Tiny Bite – someone you cared about is gone and you’re having a strong reaction.
I knew someone who’d been divorced for nearly a decade who railed about the unfairness of it all, how mean her ex was, and how her life would never be the same because of what he’d done to her.
Moments of those feelings are normal – living in them for years on end isn’t normal or necessary.
Think about how pilots learn to take off and land, which is the most dangerous part of flying. They do touch & go training – they’ll fly a little bit, make a big turn in the sky, line up with the runway and land, then take right back off again.
You can do that, too – when you notice that you’re marinating in sadness or anger, imagine that you’ve just landed your plane and have to take off again right away. Think of something that makes you happy, and as your thoughts turn to that, feel your mood lifting off, too.
All feelings are valid – you get to choose whether you’ll roll down the runway in a bad mood or lighten up and fly.
