Taking Little Steps to Big Dreams - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Most of us have big goals – life goals, career goals, relationship goals, whatever. Even if they just feel like wishes or dreams to us, they are actually goals. And big goals can feel very daunting – they feel distant in time, affordability, or reality.
Have you ever heard a friend who longs to be in a relationship say, “All the good men are either taken or gay?” That’s an example of a big goal that feels unreachable to that person, and that’s someone who needs to learn the concept of small goals on the path to the big goal.
Think about the big goal you’d love to accomplish someday. It doesn’t matter what it is, every big goal has small steps along the path to it. Today, write down your big goal in big letters at the bottom of a sheet of paper, or at the bottom of a whiteboard you can dedicate to just that goal. Now, break it down – what has to happen before you will be living that goal?
Say it’s winning the lottery – clearly, buying lottery tickets has to be part of that goal, right?
Think of what has to happen along the way to your goal, and write the steps on the sheet above your big goal. Now you have little targets to hit – each time you achieve one, cross it off and celebrate – you’re one step closer to your big goal!
