How to Stop Wallowing in Victimhood - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
“You must first be willing to be a survivor before you can be a success.”
The Reverend TD Jakes said these words at the grand opening celebration for Tyler Perry’s studio complex in Atlanta during an on-camera interview. While he was talking specifically about Tyler Perry, that sentence describes everyone. We all have things in our lives we’ve overcome, some small, and some huge and horrible.
When we believe that we are a victim, we stay stuck in a victimhood mentality. People who see themselves as victims stay guarded, not allowing themselves to try new things or meet new people for fear of being victimized.
You cannot succeed by cutting yourself off from new experiences and new people – it’s in those interactions that we learn who we are at our core. If you want to be successful, no matter how you define success, pay attention to how you think and speak about yourself and your experiences. Eliminate the victim words and stories – replace them with more positive words and stories and get set to be a success.
