It's OK to Walk Away - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
Most people have at least a little bit of people-pleaser in their personality. Those who raised us wanted us to do what they wanted us to do, so they acted pleased when we did it and displeased when we didn’t. We learned early on how to smooth our paths by at least trying to look like we cared what others thought about our actions.
Fast-forward to adulthood, and because we’re drawn to what feels familiar to us, we can end up in a relationship with someone who expects us to bend ourselves like a pretzel to please them and be what they want us to be.
No matter how long you’ve been in a relationship like that, it’s OK to be done with it. It’s OK to stand up for the person you are. It’s OK not to twist yourself into knots trying to please your partner.
If your relationship feels like a problem, it’s OK to stop participating in the problem. You have one precious life – if you want to be a people-pleaser, please yourself for a change.
