When Being Human Isn't Pretty - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Good people get tired of being good to ungrateful people. That’s human nature. Losing your temper after trying and trying and trying to respond to someone who is badgering you is human nature.
In both situations, the “human nature” part of you feels justified in giving up on someone who seems ungrateful, and in getting angry at someone who just won’t let it go.
Believe me, my “human nature” side has shown itself plenty of times, and it’s not a pretty sight. In the moment I felt perfectly justified. On reflection, I realized that when I’m able to rise above the knee-jerk responses and give the irritating person the benefit of the doubt, I feel better.
In my life, and in yours too, it’s important to make ourselves feel better, and one of the best ways to do that is to find a way to love even the most unlovable people, especially when they’re at their most unlovable.
