Music, Dancing, Your Brain, and You - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
You know scientists will study anything, right? And you know I’m a science nerd, right?
The other day I was talking with a couple of friends about music and dancing, and we realized that just watching someone dance made us all feel better.
A Columbia University neuroscientist studied the brains of dancers and declared that dancing is a pleasure double-play: music stimulates the brain’s pleasure centers and movement to that music releases endorphins, intensifying the pleasure. A study at Albert Einstein College of Medicine studied 11 types of physical activity and their effects on developing dementia, and found that only dancing lowered the risk of dementia.
The research is in – running, swimming, and cycling are good for your body and only dancing is good for your brain. Dancing is joy in motion with music as the excuse, so go ahead – get up and dance.
