Who Could Disagree With Love? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Who could disagree with love?
Turns out, almost everyone.
For most people in most cases, love is a condition instead of a feeling. Examples include:
- rude person
- gender identification
- religion
- political leaning
- ethnicity
When faced with those differences, many people choose to not love. Some may keep their disapproval to themselves, and some may use language and behavior as a way to distance themselves from the person they don’t approve of.
The amygdala, the primitive part of our brain, has a 3-5 second head start over the cerebral cortex, the reasoning part of our brain. It’s normal to have a quick, knee-jerk reaction to something that feels foreign or dangerous or unwanted. It’s loving to shift that feeling as quickly as possible, finding a way to incorporate the other person’s differences into a more caring response.
When you can do that, you’re in agreement with love. When you can’t, you aren’t. Do you agree with love? Can you?
