Are You Chasing It or Choosing It? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
One of my dogs has decided that the chipmunks living under the sun porch are more interesting than coming inside the house. I discovered this the hard way one night when I was ready to go to bed and put the dogs out for their last potty of the night. Three hours later she finally decided that coming inside might be more fun than trying to catch the uncatchable.
During that three-hour detour from sleep, I vacillated from irritated to angry to whiny to desperate, and cycled through those emotions several times. One person can’t catch a dog that doesn’t want to be caught, and none of my great training tricks worked.
As I thought about the overly-exciting night the next day, a thought popped into my mind: Whatever you’re not changing, you’re choosing.
What does that mean?
It means when something you don’t like happens, you can either choose to find a better way to manage the situation or you can choose to make no changes. Moving forward is easiest when you make conscious choices that shape the outcome you want. In this situation, that means Kacey goes out on a leash for the last potty of the night.
Do you have a situation that could use a conscious choice? Make it and get set to enjoy your future sooooo much more!
