Choosing to Let Someone Drown - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Were you ever a lifeguard? If you took lifeguard training, there was probably one thing they told you that shocked you, and that you vowed you could never do: let someone drown.
Lifeguards are taught how to create flotation devices out of everyday pieces of clothing, how to safely approach, calm, and secure a drowning person, and when to know that “safely” isn’t possible.
A drowning person is sometimes so panicked that they can’t be calmed, which is when the lifeguard has to choose to save themself.
Is there a situation in your life where you feel like maybe you’re drowning? Or do you have a friend or family member who struggles to make good decisions in their own life? Take your new lifeguard knowledge and use it to help you through whatever life is throwing at you.
Remember that you can’t help another person – or yourself – if you’re not making calm, clear decisions.
