The Secret to Mind Control - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites

Want to be more in control of your life? Be more in control of your brain.

Your brain does a lot of things automatically, like keeping your heart and lungs working. Those are good things. Your brain also does a lot of things automatically, and some of them are not good things.

Do you get irritated when you get caught at red lights? I used to, too, because I like to drive and stopping doesn’t equal driving. Getting irritated and focusing on the irritation makes a minor annoyance into a big dang deal, especially where your blood pressure and stress level are concerned.

When you notice yourself getting irritated, ask yourself why it serves you to be irritated. Most of the time the answer will be – it doesn’t serve you at all, and it actually harms your body and your mood.

In that moment, take control of your brain – focus on something pleasant. If you’re at a red light, look around for something funny or pretty or novel. Distract yourself from the automatic negativity that your brain wants to focus on, and watch your life get better.
