Harnessing the Astonishing Power of Learning - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
When you were a small child, there was so much to learn – you had to learn to roll over, then crawl, then walk, at the same time you were learning language and behavior.
Then there were all those years of school, where you learned things that you might need someday, along with other things you never will. Wittgenstein's Ladder, anyone?
Now that you’re launched into adulthood, do you still focus on learning? Maybe not as focused as you used to be – do you still make it a point to try to understand things in a new way, or see things from another person’s point of view?
Learning draws energy through us because our brains are wired to enjoy the a-ha moments in life. If you work with someone from a completely different background, maybe you could learn about their early life, foods and customs. If you work with someone whose political leanings are different than yours, maybe you could ask them what events in their life shaped their beliefs. Pro tip – talk about ideas, not people, to keep the conversations civil.
Just because the construct of school isn’t in your life anymore doesn’t mean that learning stops. Learning stops when you die. Have fun learning, right up until then.
