Dancing With the Creative Current - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites

Are you familiar with the concept of “flow state” or being in the zone? That’s what happens when you are completely engrossed in doing one thing.

When you’re in flow state, it can feel like time is standing still and like the rest of the world doesn’t even exist for you in that moment. You’re not worried, stressed, or anxious – you’re happily, thoroughly absorbed in what you’re doing.

It’s like the task you’re involved in is a river and you’re dancing on top, being carried downstream effortlessly while you create a beautiful performance. The river would just be the river without your dance, and you wouldn’t effortlessly make progress without the river’s current.

You can’t always put yourself into flow state, and you can do things which could help you enter flow state more often. First, remember times you’ve been in the zone before – what did those times have in common? Make a list of everything you can think of – indoors or out? Quiet or noisy? If there was music, what kind?

How can you duplicate those circumstances when you want to encourage flow state? The more you practice, the better you’ll become at dancing on your river, at work and in your everyday life.
