How to Unlock the Confusion of Control - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
This Tiny Bite is true in all kinds of situations.
You’re not in control.
You can’t control another person’s thoughts, feelings, or behavior. You can make them appear to be in compliance, and if they have to do what you tell them to do, they will. But if they’re doing it against their own judgement or wishes, they won’t be in your life very long, whether they’re an employee or a romantic partner.
You can’t control their loyalty, either. That’s their gift to give to you, and they can take it away whenever they choose.
You can’t control another person’s honesty. Heck, the people who raised us taught us to be selectively dishonest when we wanted to do something we knew they didn’t want us to do, and yet we didn’t want them to think badly of us or punish us. We did it anyway and found a stealthy way to hide it.
You are in control of your own thoughts, feelings, and behavior. When you remember this and choose a clear, consistent, kind, way of treating people, you can inspire them to the best of who they can be in your life.
That’s your control. Use it wisely.
