What to Do Once You Reach Your Goal - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites

When you were a child, what did you dream of being when you grew up? For most of us, those dreams changed a lot – 6-year-old you might have wanted to be a superhero, 8-year-old you wanted to be a police officer, and maybe 18-year-old you dreamed of medical school on your first day as an undergrad.

How do you feel about those dreams now, and what do you want to be now?

Can you think of your dreams as still coming true? Maybe you dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and now you’re a veterinarian, so you feel that you accomplished your dream and need another dream. Can you still think of yourself as “becoming a veterinarian” – becoming a better diagnostician, becoming a better surgeon, becoming a better leader of your team, becoming a better whatever piece of your profession that you like best?

When you can hold your dreams up, examine them, and see how they fit – or don’t – in your current life, you remember that you do have dreams, and your dreams are important. Give yourself a few minutes today and ask yourself this: what do you dream of being now that you’re grown up?
