Harnessing the Power of the Apology - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Do you find it hard to apologize? Many people do, and yet a simple, sincere apology is one of the best ways to get along with people.
Stuff happens every day, and sometimes a mistake one person makes causes problems in the life of another person. Fender-benders are a great example – not a huge problem because nobody got hurt, but an inconvenience having to deal with getting a police report, getting the insurance paperwork done, and getting the damage fixed.
In a situation like that, instead of a civilized conversation, it’s more common that a confrontation happens as one driver gets out of the car, surveys the damage, and proceeds to treat the other driver like they caused the accident on purpose. When the at-fault driver can choose to respond calmly, with a sincere apology and desire to make things right, very often the conversation calms down.
Think about times in your life where a simple apology would have eased a tough situation. And next time you are in a position where you’re a little bit at fault, or maybe even a lot, remember the power of a simple apology.
