Helping Someone - Maybe You - Boost Self-Esteem - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites

Do you know or work with someone who seems to have a negative perception of themselves? Maybe they avoid social situations and activities, keep their eyes and sometimes even their head down, and might mumble when responding to questions or requests for input?

Those are classic signs of someone with low self-esteem. They’re not anti-social – as a matter of fact, they often crave social interaction and don’t know how to ask to be included, or may feel unworthy of being included.

You can help that person blossom, and it’s generally easier than you think: ask for their input, be genuinely interested in the answer, and appreciate their input out loud. Include them in lunch plans. Bring them a cup of coffee or their favorite beverage now and then.

If you think you might have low self-esteem, know that you can raise your own self-esteem by internally arguing with the negative voices in your head, volunteering for a cause you believe strongly in, and by making a list of the things you’re really good at and reviewing and adding to that list each day.
