Let’s talk about your body…how do you feel about it?

OK, so we’ll talk about how most people feel about their bodies. Yuk. Right?

I remember being a child, reading a Nancy Drew mystery where one of the characters was described as having “knobby knees.” Before that I had never judged my knees – that day, when I looked at them in the mirror, they looked knobby and I disapproved of them. I also disapproved of my short neck, funny-looking feet, and a myriad of other details about my body. It never occurred to me to appreciate the mechanical miracle that my knees represent, and the wonderful functionality of my neck.

How do you feel about your body, and where did those feelings come from? Chances are, you were perfectly fine about your body until you heard someone else being judgemental about your body or their body or a complete stranger’s body.

Let’s make a deal – let’s stop judging our looks and start appreciating the functionality of these vessels we inhabit. The wrinkles, folds, jiggles, and all the other perceived imperfections are just decorations on an amazing piece of machinery that we get to drive around for our whole lives.
