Are You Using the Wrong Yardstick? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
Do you have a friend that you think has it all together? When you look at her life, she seems to have everything you want and more?
Beware the tendency to compare your life to anyone else’s.
It’s very common for humans to measure where they are in life against where someone similar is – their car is better, their house is better, their partner is better – and yet you’re using a flawed yardstick. There’s no way you can possibly know what their life is like.
People can be very good at painting a picture of a great life, when it’s really not so great. They’re two months behind on car payments, they can’t afford to get the HVAC fixed right now, and when no one’s around, the two of them fight like Taylor Swift and Kanye West.
The only yardstick you can reliably measure yourself against is who you were yesterday, who you are today, and who you want to be tomorrow. When you resist the temptation to compare yourself and your life to others, you eliminate a lot of stress and uncertainty from your life.
