Are You Feeling Belief, Faith, or Knowing? - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites
There is belief, and there is faith, and there is knowing. What’s the difference? The differences are subtle, for sure, and the lines blur from one word to the other to the other.
- Belief is something you think is true because of your own past experience.
- Faith is something you believe is true because of a desire for it to be true, coupled with a shared expression of your faith, and it can be about anything, not just religion.
- Knowing is the hard-and-fast reality of something that you’ve experienced over and over, so you can count on the truth of it.
I believe when I turn the oven on it will get hot. I have faith that the packet of yeast will make the bread light and tender. I know that if I try to take the bread pans out of the oven without potholders, I will burn my fingers.
That’s a very superficial example – today, take five minutes, pick a deeper subject, and play with what you believe, what you take on faith, and what you know. Do that daily – it’s actually a very interesting exercise.
When you take the time to sort out your feelings on different topics, it helps you sort out your own priorities in life.
