Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Feeling Angry and Learning to Let It Go
Did you get good and angry at someone today? That kind of white-hot mad where you feel perfectly justified in the anger?
That is perfectly human, and is also usually short-lived. Some people get addicted to the adrenaline and cortisol rush that goes with the anger, so they look for reasons to get angry. Hopefully that’s not you – what you felt was just good, old-fashioned, strong and sudden irritation with another person’s actions or words.
That’s normal, and yet because the hormones released are the same stress hormones that damage your body and health, it’s good to get control of your anger quickly.
Here are two good questions to ask yourself when you’re feeling angry with someone: How does the anger feel? How do you want to feel?
When you stop and examine how the anger makes you feel, it helps you regain control of yourself more quickly. When you can get a handle on your feelings, it allows you to see the situation more objectively. You might still be justified in your anger, yet you can see a more productive way to deal with the other person.
