Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Evaluating the Value of Friends and Family

Let’s talk about the people closest to you in your life – the people you share a roof with, the people you share your workday with, and the people you share your leisure activities with.

Think about a time when you were struggling – maybe a breakup, maybe a financial hardship, maybe a personal crisis of confidence – and once you have that time and how you were feeling firmly in mind, think about the people closest to you – who stepped up to help? Who reached out to be sure you were OK? Who was there for you, and who wasn’t?

Who watched your struggle from the sidelines, who gave you unsolicited and unhelpful advice, and who ghosted you until your personal coast was clear?

We don’t often remember to evaluate the quality of the relationships in our lives, and yet the people you surround yourself with can help you soar or shoot you down. Make a list of who helped and who hurt, and cultivate the helpers. Those who weren’t helpful and instead made you feel worse through it all aren’t your people – focus less of your time on them and let them drift away.
