Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Do You Cross It or Do You Burn It?

A throwback country song by Vince Gill talks about “which bridge to cross and which bridge to burn.” The song is about having two romantic relationships and how to choose between them, but the sentiment is much larger than just love.

There are times in most people's lives where a choice must be made, and it’s a “one or the other” choice. Figuratively crossing one bridge literally removes the other bridge as an option, at least in the short term. For instance, in the early part of my radio career, I was faced with a choice – stay with a family-owned broadcasting company where my job was assured, or move to a big corporation, where job stability was nearly unheard of. Either way, the other option was eliminated – it was one or the other, with no turning back.

Maybe you’ve had a similar experience, and here's what it taught me – no one, not one single other person on the planet – can make the choice for you. Only you are in a position to weigh the risks and rewards associated with each choice. Next time you’re wondering which bridge to cross and which bridge to burn, trust yourself, choose, and don’t look back. You’ll get it right.
