Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Do You Beat People Up with Your Baggage?
Do you know someone who defines themselves by the things they’ve lived through? Most of us do – the most vivid example in my life was Grandma Faught, who was a big, fat, medical mess.
She wasn’t really – she was actually very healthy. She had her appendix out at a young age and the drama of that event seemed to define her life. No matter what ailment you had, she’d tell you she had it worse. And she’d tell you at length and in excruciating detail! If you know someone like that, love them and try not to spend too much time around them, for your own sanity.
Things happen to everyone – some of them are good, some not so good, and we’ve all got baggage. Things happen. It’s how we choose to move forward from the event that is our responsibility.
The person who stays stuck is choosing not to learn and grow. They can also be a difficult person to be around because of their incessant focus on themselves and their life’s trauma.
We are not responsible for the things that happen in our past. We are responsible for how we choose to behave moving forward.
