Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - What Makes You Angry?
Are there things, incidents or people that get on your last nerve? Or maybe they even cause you to feel instant anger?
This is juicy stuff – take a few minutes today and write down the people and things that make you mad: slow cars in the left lane, your co-worker talking loudly on her phone, someone asking you for help and then not taking your advice – whatever sets you off, write it down.
You’ll end up with a list of habits – that’s all, just habits – you’ve formed for getting mad. Inside your brain, irritation, anger, and spouting off feel like you’re solving a not-optimal situation. In reality, you’ve simply formed the habit of getting mad at certain things.
Since getting mad releases stress hormones in your body which wreak havoc with your immune system, circulatory system, and digestive system, it’s in your best interest to break those bad habits.
Here’s the good news – you’ve already created the list of times you’d like to be more in control of your feelings. Now, when those irritating things happen, instead of getting angry, feel powerful. Take control of your feelings and steer them in a more benign, beneficial direction.
