Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Can You Let People Be Wrong About You?

Let people be wrong about you.

It’s OK – what they think about you is who they are, not who you are. You don’t owe any kind of explanation to anyone, and when you explain, people who misunderstand you already will continue to misunderstand you. That’s who they are…they’ve already decided you’re kind of pathetic, so when you start trying to explain yourself all they’ll see is evidence of what they believe.

Save yourself the trouble and heartache – let your actions speak for you as you move through life. That’s how people really learn who you are.

Even if the person who misunderstands you is someone who influences others and you’re worried about what the other people will think, shrug it off. What other people think about you is their business, not yours. You can’t think inside their head, you can’t explain your way into their hearts, and by living your life your way, on your terms, they’ll see who you are.

Play the long game – people worth having in your life will be there, and the rest will self-select to stay away. Yay!
