Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - How to Intentionally Create More Highlights in Your Life

Don’t you love that moment when something you’ve been wishing and hoping and planning and maybe even praying for happens? Those moments in our lives a

re high spots for a reason, and did you ever notice that you don’t stay in that extreme happiness very long? That’s OK, and it’s perfectly human that you would return to your normal emotional state soon after having that moment – maybe hours, maybe days, but “normal” is normal for a reason.

If you’d like your day-to-day emotional state to be a bit more elevated than normal, try this: think back on your life and make a list of the events that have created that high, happy emotional state. As you list them out, fill in as many details as you can remember around those great feelings. Put the list in your phone, hang it on your bathroom mirror, strap it to the sun visor in your car – in other words, put it in all the places you’re likely to see it often during your day.

Relive the peak experiences of your life often – your brain can’t tell the difference between remembering reality and reality itself, so doing this exercise as often as possible elevates your mood while you do it and trains your brain to that elevated state, creating a happier “normal” for you.
