Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Creating a More Beautiful World is Completely Up to You
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” at some point in your life. Have you examined it to find the essential truth in it? Let’s unpack it now.
Chances are, you heard someone say it because they couldn’t see the beauty someone else was seeing. As a matter of fact, it was said to me when I was dating the man I was married to for 30 years. Was he handsome? No. Could he make me laugh even when I was PMS-ing? Yes.
Not everyone could appreciate his humorous streak, though everyone could see the physical person. I chose the aspects of him I wanted to focus on, so he was “beautiful” to me.
You can do that, too, with people, situations and life’s inevitable stumbling blocks. Next time you’re faced with something that’s not exactly what you would prefer, instead of focusing on the unattractive aspects of it, find at least one attractive one and focus on it.
When you purposefully look for aspects you can appreciate in even the least-attractive situations, then you understand the essential truth in “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
