Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Be Selfish - Deliver Great Service
What does “good service” mean to you?
I heard a story of a man who, while painting a rowboat, plugged a hole that the boat’s owner forgot to mention. In so doing, he probably saved the lives of the owner’s children, who took the boat out the next day and didn’t drown due to that hole. The man who fixed the rowboat didn’t demand extra money for the extra service he performed – he just did what was necessary without even mentioning it to the boat’s owner.
Have you ever been the recipient of good service like that? How did it make you feel?
Now, flip the tables around – how can you give good service like that? Because here’s the magic of good service: people feel it, know it and appreciate it, even if they don’t let you know they do. And people who appreciate your good service refer you to their friends who need the kind of service you give, because they care about their friends and want them to be taken care of, too.
When you put the needs of those you serve at the forefront of what you do, it’s the very best way to take care of your needs, too.
