Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Why Selfies are Historically Correct and Perfectly OK

Do you take and post selfies? Or maybe you’re on the other end of that spectrum – not only do you not share selfies on your social media, you sometimes find yourself questioning the depth of character of those who do share them.

If you’re in that second category, how does it feel when that judgmental part of you rears it’s not-terribly-attractive head? You don’t mean to be judgey – it just crops up when someone flaunts themselves like that.

Guess what? Way back in 6200 BC people felt the same way about their peers who admired themselves in polished obsidian rocks because mirrors and cell phone cameras hadn’t been invented yet.

Humans are innately fascinated by our own image. It’s ok – it’s human – and just like those of us with a lot of experience on the planet grew up using mirrors, not polished rocks, to examine ourselves, those who came of age in the late 90’s 'til now are using selfies as their mirror.

If you’re not in the habit of using your phone as a mirror, try it. You’ll look great in my news feed!
