Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Affirmations for Better or for Worse
Do you use affirmations? Many people do, and they swear by the power of intentionally shaping their life experiences with affirmations. Many people have tried them and swear they just made things worse.
Both groups of people are right – affirmations can help you shape your life experience positively, and can also keep you stuck or worse yet, can be detrimental to your wellbeing.
The key is in your belief – when you believe the affirmation you’re using, it keeps you focused on your goals. When you try to use an affirmation like a magic wand to conjure up something you want but don’t believe in, it keeps you focused on something you don’t believe you can have. Maybe you feel it’s too outrageous for you to really ever achieve, or you’re not worthy of it - for whatever reason, your focus is on what you think is wrong.
When you focus negatively, it’s almost impossible for you to see the possibilities that could lead you to what you want. Affirmations work if you believe in them and in yourself.
