Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - The Perks of Getting Older

When I was a teenager, having to work on Saturday night was a huge issue that felt like it could change the trajectory of my love life forever. Now sometimes I choose to work on a Saturday night and it energizes me.

What changed? In that example, both versions of me are working on a Saturday night. The young version of me resented it bitterly, while the older version of me is fulfilled by it. What changed was my view of my own life, and my control over how I feel about it.

Along with the grey hair, wrinkles and occasional aches, I gained a broader sense of perspective. Things that felt catastrophic as a 15-year-old are now just minor ripples in a calm life.

I bet you can think of things that felt terrible just a few years back, and now, the older, wiser version of you can roll with them, too. If you’re struggling with something now that feels big, try to see it as the grey-haired version of you will see it. Let go of the drama that you now feel and imagine the broader sense of perspective that you’ll gain with age.
