Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Three Degrees of Happiness
When you’re around someone who’s in a really good mood, does that make you feel uplifted, too? Researchers at Harvard and University of California San Diego conducted a study of about 5,000 people over the course of 20 years and found that one person’s happiness affects those around them positively. They put data to anecdotal evidence and in so doing, showed just how powerful that one person’s happiness can be – three degrees of separation from the happy person still showed an uptick in happiness.
What does this mean for you? When you’re the happy person, you affect your friends, family and co-workers, PLUS you affect those people’s friends, families and co-worker, PLUS you affect all of their friends, families and co-workers.
By intentionally keeping yourself in a contented mood, and allowing the moments of humor, happiness and joy to shine when they hit you, you are literally changing the lives of the people around you.
Happiness is powerful – pass it on.
