Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - The Perfectionism Experiment
Are you a recovering perfectionist, too?
One of the ways that perfectionism showed up in my life was that I wouldn’t try things I felt I couldn’t do. Can you imagine what that did to my self-confidence? Yep, if you just thought “gutted it” you’re exactly right.
When we’re hard on ourselves, expecting perfection from even our first try at something, it often means we lead self-limiting lives and lack confidence. If you think you might be doing that to yourself, even a little bit, try this – once a week, try something you’ve never done before, just as an experiment.
Be playful with it and with yourself – you’re a scientist running an experiment just to see how it goes. When it goes well, great! When it doesn’t go well, put your scientist thinking cap on and try to figure out how it could go better next time.
Get playful with new things and soon your scientist self will boot your perfectionist self right out of the laboratory that is your life.
