Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Learning Self-Confidence
Do you feel good when someone compliments you?
Most people like when someone else notices them in a positive way. And yet it can be tough to acknowledge the compliment. Often, instead of accepting the compliment, they parry back with something like, “oh, I just threw this outfit on – it’s nothing special,” or “you think my hair looks good? It’s so unruly today!”
If you respond to compliments in a self-deprecating way, can I suggest something else? Smile and say thank you. That’s all you have to do and say. Look the other person in the eye, smile, and say thank you.
With their compliment, they’re acknowledging that they see you and appreciate you. When you argue with them, you negate their lovely action. Instead, acknowledge them – smile and say thank you.
The bonus is when you accept compliments graciously you bolster your own self-confidence!
