Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - How to be Right Every Single Time

Maybe you’ve heard the saying, “perception is reality.” In marketing this is proved over and over again as people pay more money for an inferior product that they’ve been led to believe is superior and necessary in their lives.

There’s a more personal application though – what you believe is what you see.

Your perception of an event is shaped by all the life you’ve lived before that event, and by what the people who raised you believed about such events. Their perception becomes your perception, and so when you see this event in your life, you think and feel and behave accordingly.

If you believe it is bad to run a red light, you’re far less likely to run a red light, plus you’re far more likely to have a negative perception of someone who does. That’s a simplistic example, and here’s the point: Everyone’s life has shaped them differently, so their perception and reality could be quite different than yours.

And you’re both right.
