Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites - Taking a Friend Break
Have you and a friend had a falling-out?
Is it a big one – the kind where you won’t talk for days or maybe even weeks?
Have you had that kind of falling-out with the same friend before?
If so, it’s time to examine what that friendship really is. Is it just a habit? Is it a co-dependency? Is it a need to hang on to a certain period or part of your life experience, no matter how dysfunctional holding on to it might feel at times?
Before you try to heal this falling-out with your friend, ask yourself how this friendship makes you feel. Do you usually have fun when you’re together? Does making plans with this friend make your heart sing? When something wonderful happens in your life, is this person at the top of your list to call and share the news?
If you can’t answer “yes” to all three of those questions, this person may not be a real friend. Take a break. Take a long break. No calls, no texts, no DMs – nothing.
Does it feel good to be free for a while? Then don’t go back. Moving on from relationships that no longer serve you is a wonderful form of self-care.
