It’s good to feel needed, right? It is good to feel needed – right up until it isn’t.
When someone in your life crosses the line between healthy and unhealthy neediness, it can be a bit disconcerting. Suddenly the things you did for them because it felt good to help them don’t feel so good anymore. It might feel a little like coercion or like they feel you owe them those things you use to feel good about doing. Whatever you do, don’t discount that little voice inside your head that tells you something is wrong – because something is wrong.
Keep people in your life that you love and want in your life because they help you feel good. Don’t keep people in your life who don't make you feel good, or from a feeling of obligation, or because they try to convince you that you should be with them.
When neediness tips over into coercion it’s time for a change of scenery. Value that little voice inside your head and trust it, and go where you’re valued, not where you’re chained.
